Fruit Gardening Discussion

I am expanding my organic garden this year to (hopefully) include more fruits. I had a small, sad patch of strawberries last year (most of which got eaten by ants -- who said ants were beneficial in the garden!) but I REALLY want some blueberries and raspberries (and maybe a fig tree if I get really energetic).

Has anyone had great success (or failure), or just some significant experience with growing fruit plants in our area? I'm starting this discussion in the hopes that we can all help each other so please chime in!
